As we all know, the internet is an endless source of information. Unfortunately a great deal of that information isn't safe for children, and many parents are struggling to protect their pre-teen and teenage children from the dangers that lurk online. Over 95% of teens in the United States have access to the internet and 78% have a mobile device such as a smartphone. Many of them don't fully understand the side effects of sharing selfies and private information. In addition, over half of all teens have been cyber-bullied, but only 1 in 6 of their parents knows about it.
We turned to Ameeta Jain, co-founder of TeenSafe and Teenology for advice on opening the lines of communication with our children so that we can better protect them from the negative side of the internet and social media.
