Celebrating Valentine's Day is fun for all ages. I dare you to find someone who turns up their nose at gift in a heart shaped box. Valentine's Day is an excuse to pour love over the people you care about most and it's the perfect time to plan something special with the kids! More than anything, children love spending one-on-one time with parents and taking part in a special activity or outing with a parent.

When planning a Valentine's date with your child, consider her interests. What is something she likes to do that you are not able to do with her very often? Have you heard your child mention a new activity she would like to try? Or the inverse — what is something you like to do that you could share with your child?

Don't be afraid to get a little out of the ordinary! Kids love when parents show them their fun side. Usually, we parents are busy making sure everyone stays safe and fed and healthy, so our children don't always realize how cool we can be. Taking them on a surprise adventure lets them see all our awesomeness in action.

It doesn't matter if you hit the town or hit the couch — a Valentine's date with your child is about time spent together. Here are some ideas for having a fun afternoon or evening with your child.

If you feel like getting out of the house...

  • Laser Tag
  • Roller Skating
  • Bowling
  • Chocolate making class
  • Paint pottery

If you would rather stay in, consider these date ideas:

  • Make a meal together and watch a movie
  • Bake all your favorite treats, then have a dessert tasting
  • Put on your favorite tunes and have a lip sync and dance party
  • Create an at home spa. (i.e. paint nails, face masks, foot soak)

Make this Valentine's Day with the kids all about them. Show them that you are not too busy to let loose and focus on spending time together. No matter what you choose to do, your date with your child with be special because you chose to give all your attention to them.
