I envy my “crafty” friends.  You know…. the ones who scrap, sew, and design their own blog templates.  They do it so easily, and so it seemed futile for me to even try.  Then I discovered a website that gave me back some confidence.

Before this site, I couldn’t sew.  I didn’t try.  When stuff would rip, I would shamefully toss it, recycle it, or turn it into a dish rag.  This site, however, has got “Crafting for Dummies” nailed down real tight.  I can see full color instructions for each activity and well-explained, step-by-step tutorials.  I am never left scratching my head or swearing.  This is big for me.  I also can’t believe how many testimonies there were from people just like me who had enjoyed using the site to get a little more “Martha” in their own lives.

I learned of YouCanMakeThis.com the same way I learn about a lot of neat things:  my friends.  After hearing about the site for some time, I decided to really check it out.  I got a taste of one of their Halloween costume ebooks (an adorable instruction manual for making these heavenly tutus you can fill with all kinds of trinkets.)  I was hooked.  With 3 little boys in the home, I considered forcing them to wear tutus, so I could master the first craft on the list.  I chose, instead to check out their Easy Fit Pants pattern.  Wow! (This was really as easy as they said it was.)

Other really clever offerings on the site include Beginner Appliqué, Cookie Bouquets, and Digital Scrapbooking.  Most of the books start at around $5, with the more advanced ones in the $15 range.  They are available instantly upon purchase. (And for a free preview of how fantastic their books are, check out this Kid’s Craft!  I smell a homeschool unit study coming up at our house real soon…..)

I’m not getting anything by telling you about this.  I just had to let all of you missing the artistic side of your brains (like me), that there is hope.  I won’t be heading over to start my own Etsy shop anytime soon.  But you just might find me setting up a little sewing corner or taking my digital camera out more often.  That’s a great place to start!
