Spring is almost here! If your budget could use a spring cleaning like ours, we’ve got tips to help you get started.

1. Turn Down the Heat

The weather is warming up! So even though you might be used to turning that heat up in the morning, don’t. If you can stand it, just throw on a sweater or slippers and keep that heating bill down. Once you make it a habit, you'll be surprised how easy it is to keep it a few degrees cooler and save some cash.

2. Stay Home on St. Patrick’s Day

Have a fun family meal at home for St. Patrick’s Day. Then, the next day, head to the store and stock up on the corned beef that will be on sale. Freeze it for a nice meal later in the season. Bonus: my daughter loves corned beef hash and stocking up after St. Patrick's Day will allow me to make her a healthier version.

3. Bike or Walk

The weather is warmer, right? So if you can, start biking or walking to work. It will save you money on gas and help you stay healthy.

4. Use the Sun

The days are already getting longer, so use that to your advantage. You can keep the lights off later into the evening and save on your electric bill. Make the savings bigger by remembering to unplug your devices and chargers when they aren’t in use.

5. Spring Clean

Open the windows and get cleaning. Start with your closets and you’re likely to find a wealth of items you no longer use and can sell for extra cash.

It’s March and you’ve got the luck of the Irish on your side. It’s the perfect time to reset your budget. As an old Irish proverb says: “If you buy what you don’t need, you might have to sell what you do.” Watch your spending this month and enjoy your summer vacation even more.
