hmm I was a born floater
Submitted by Organized Mom on March 13, 2008 - 21:25.
Great article thanks for the link to the queen bee article as well :-)
I was blessed as a child to have a special needs sister. Watching her grow up made me very perceptive to these cliques, bullying, and how it hurts others. Somehow I was a born floater, confident and not willing to sit by when others were bullied. And this queen bee stuff is really just a form of bullying.
After moving away I am back at my hometown raising my three children on my own. It's interesting to see the mom cliques hanging about out front of the school each day. I float between all groups as I always have I need not belong to any :-)
It takes a village to raise a child and its not until we as mothers stand up and say no more between ourselves that bullying will stop on the school yard. Our children learn by example and in elementary school we are that example.
If we are focused on "each other" and where to fit in we aren't focusing on " helping, caring, and the things that really make a difference".
Last night I saw an Ellen pod cast talking about a gay youth KILLED because another youth was worried about what people would say because he was asked on a date by a gay guy.
It's time to stop worrying about where to fit in or what others think of our jeans ;) and just live :-)
Nijas are cool ... maybe you could maake t shirts "Ninja mom lives beneath this Tshirt - beware all Queen Bees."
