Halloween can be a scary time for younger children. All of the costumes and decorations can be overwhelming, as younger children have a difficult time understanding the difference between real and pretend. If you are planning to skip trick-or-treating this year, or just want to show your children how great Halloween can be, have some fun in the safety and comfort of your own fun by having a family movie night (or afternoon).
1. Pooh's Heffalump Halloween Movie
Celebrate Halloween with the beloved Pooh and his friends. This is a great film for younger kids ages 3 and up, although my two-year-old enjoys it too. Tigger tells the Hundred Acre Wood crew tales of the Gobloon, and Roo and his new friend Lumpy makes plans to catch it.
2. It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
This classic Halloween flick is great for children ages 4 and up. Watch the Peanuts gang celebrate Halloween. Linus hopes to get a visit from the Great Pumpkin and Charlie is invited to a Halloween party.
3. Barney's Halloween Party
Young children love Barney, and they will enjoy the music and fun of this movie. Barney and his friends plan a Halloween party, as BJ and Baby Bop get ready to go trick-or-treating. A great choice for children as young as one.
4. Garfield's Halloween Adventure
This fun Halloween movie finds Garfield and Odie crossing a river to get more candy while trick-or-treating. They run into a scary old man and some pirates and have a great Halloween adventure. This film is fun for kids six and up, as it has a few scary parts. This flick even won a Primetime Emmy Award in 1986.
5. Arthur's Scary Stories
Perfect for ages 3 and up, the Arthur stories tackle everyday kid fears like the fear of the dark and of strange noises. Fun and not too scary makes for a great Halloween for little kids.
