It’s no surprise that Halloween is one of the scariest holidays for parents of children with food allergies, especially those with nut allergies. So many of the standard and classic candies are labeled as potential threats to the lives of children who live with these allergies every day. But no one wants to take the fun out of Halloween. It’s one of the best parts of being a child.

All it takes is a quick swap and you can ensure that each child gets a treat they will enjoy and will be safe for them. Here are the top 10 Halloween treats that are free from wheat, peanuts, tree nuts, milk, and eggs.

1. Smarties

A classic treat that my kids love, despite the lack of chocolate.

2. Airheads

Flavors for every kid including grape, watermelon, and cherry. These soft and chewy bars are a hit.

3. Now and Later Original

One of my favorites as a child, these bite-sized taffy squares last a long time, which means your house might be quieter.

4. Haribo Gold-Bears

Kids love gummy bears, and these are no different. They are harder than the average bear though so you may want to skip them for the yonger kids.

5. Dots

Kids love these bite-sized gummy treats!

6. PEZ

Throw some PEZ despensers in there for some extra fun!

7. Skittles

They might not be chocolate, but Skittles are a perfect replacement for M&Ms. Kids will be thrilled to get these on Halloween.

8. Sour Patch Kids

Doesn’t your mouth water at the name Sour Patch Kids? That makes them an ideal candy for Halloween.

9. Swedish Fish

Love these! And so will the kids in your child’s school.

10. Jelly Belly

Most jelly beans are completely allergen-free, but please read the labels to make sure since the latest and greatest speciality flavors might have some extra scary ingredients.

All kids should get to have fun on Halloween. If you are handing out candy that is allergen-free, make sure you read the labels carefully to ensure that the candy actually is safe. Some versions of safe candies might not be allergen-free. The different flavors or spin-off candies can have very different ingredients, so please be certain of the candy you are handing out.
